What I do

As a 2025 Minnesota Sea Grant Science and Policy Fellow, I am working with the St. Louis County Public Works Department to use my experience, GIS, and other tools to identify, locate, and remediate environmental issues within the county. A common goal of the projects is to minimize the impact of county roads on water quality while increasing resiliency in a time of changing precipitation patterns.

Biography

My background is in research and teaching, with a focus on human interactions with water. I like using ArcGIS to create maps that support environmental analysis and communication. My graduate work explored the relationship between land use and geology in headwater streams along the Oregon coast, as well as habitat quality in the floodplain following a full-channel realignment of the Stewart River near Two Harbors, Minnesota. I have also enjoyed teaching Biology labs at the University of Minnesota and working with children in K-12 schools.

Outreach Projects

The Minnesota Sea Grant Science and Policy Fellowship program is soliciting applications from state, municipal, and county agencies, legislative committees, tribal agencies, and nonprofit organizations within Minnesota to become hosts for the new MNSG Science and Policy Fellowship Program. The fellowship program, which started in 2025, seeks to provide hands-on, experiential pathways to careers in science policy for skilled graduate students and technical expertise to the organizations who host them.

Minnesota Sea Grant's Science and Policy Fellowship program seeks applications from current and recent graduate students who will bring technical skills, innovative ideas, and a passion for using science to inform and shape policy.
