Lake County Natural Resources Field Day

Minnesota Sea Grant extension educators will lead a game-based water quality station at Lake County's annual Natural Resources Field Day, where sixth graders will role-play in teams to learn how land use affects water quality and natural resources using MNSG's Watershed Game.

By playing the Watershed Game with MNSG, students will better understand the relationships among land uses within a watershed, water quality, flood resilience, and their community. The game will also develop students' skills in collaboration, cooperative decision-making, persuasive argumentation, teamwork, leadership, science, and math.

Hosted each May by the Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), the Natural Resources Field Day introduces Lake County sixth graders to natural resource topics through hands-on activities at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. Before the field trip, SWCD staff visit classrooms to teach students about natural resources.
