Red Cliff Environmental Insights: A Tour of Projects and Practices

Join Minnesota Sea Grant's Coastal Hazards of Superior (CHAOS) group for a field trip to Legendary Waters Resort & Casino on Lake Superior's South Shore.

The goal of the trip is to learn about how the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has addressed coastal erosion and water quality challenges through habitat restoration and stormwater management.

Field trip participants will be joined by Red Cliff environmental staff to tour an established native planting installation. Participants will learn about wetland delineation and selecting vegetation based on the needs of the site. Participants will also learn the tools and methods used to conduct culvert assessments. Following these field opportunities, the group will have time to connect with Red Cliff staff about their related efforts and will reflect with other attendees about what has been experienced on this visit.

This is an opportunity to get down to the waterfront, learn about the exciting coastal projects being implemented by Red Cliff, and build restoration and assessment skills and knowledge.
