Registration:

Please register in advance to attend this event.

Description:

Although stormwater reuse projects have rapidly growing popularity nationwide, there remain unanswered questions about how best to address public health concerns in design and implementation.

Join the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center on September 22, 2022, for their Minnesota Stormwater Research Spotlight Seminar: Stormwater Reuse and Human Health. A panel of experts will discuss the latest research and new recommendations for stormwater reuse, with a focus on public health concerns.

MDH staff will give a presentation on the recommendations from their report, Reuse of Stormwater and Rainwater in Minnesota: A Public Health Perspective, and discuss how they incorporate newly completed and relevant research into their current recommendations.

University of Minnesota Associate Professor and environmental microbiologist and biotechnologist Satoshi Ishii and University of Minnesota Alum Tamara Walsky will provide a summary of their supportive research and recommendations for stormwater reuse.

Colorado State University Professor of civil and environmental engineering Sybil Sharvelle, will present about her current stormwater reuse research project and share what she hopes to learn from it.

The five panelists will then answer a series of questions regarding stormwater reuse and public health, provide their expertise on the most current recommendations for stormwater reuse, their cautions for public safety, and what they predict will be the next phase in stormwater reuse best practices.

Minnesota Sea Grant & Water Resources Center Stormwater Extension Educator Maggie Karschnia will moderate the panel of presenters for this event.
