Event description:

"The Ins and Outs of Ballast Water" is part of the "Virtual Visitor Center" series. This webinar will cover the history and importance of ballast - when not fully loaded, cargo ships must take on water called ballast to maintain stability.

The webinar will also address:

  • Ballast-mediated introduction of aquatic nuisance species.
  • The relationship between Great Lakes trade and ballast water.
  • Ballast water regulations.
  • Research on ballast water management.

The "Virtual Visitor Center" series is made possible by the support of the Soo Locks Visitor Center Association, Lake Superior Marine Museum Association and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.
