Description:

This event is part of Itasca Waters Practical Water Wisdom: A Virtual Learning Series with new installments on the first Thursday of each month through November 3, 2022.

Salt, simple sodium chloride (NaCl), dissolves readily in water, which makes it a tricky pollutant. In this presentation, Alycia Overbo, drinking water strategic initiatives and communications planner for the Minnesota Department of Health will review how chloride from road salt, water softeners, and other sources affects fish and other aquatic organisms. Overbo will also highlight practices that communities and individuals can take to reduce the amount of chloride reaching our waterways.
