Welcome to Earth's Eye

“Earth’s Eye” is an occasional column by Minnesota Sea Grant Director John A. Downing. We hope this column will introduce and explain topics that are of value and interest to the many people we serve. The name “Earth’s Eye” comes from Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, in which he wrote, “A lake is a landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is Earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature."
