Practical Water Wisdom: Invasive Freshwater Jellyfish - Why Are They Increasing So Fast and What Do They Do in Lakes?

Event Date/Time
-

Join Itasca Waters and Minnesota Sea Grant in learning about invasive freshwater jellyfish in Minnesota lakes as part of the Itasca Water Wisdom online webinar series, co-sponsored by MNSG

In recent summers, more and more people have noticed small jellyfish floating around in lakes. These are mostly a single invasive species known as craspedacusta sowerbii, or sometimes the peach-blossom jellyfish. People who see them may think they are seeing things, but they aren’t.

Beatrix Beisner, Ph.D., will discuss some of the known history of this invasive species in North American lakes and why they are being noticed more often now. Scientists still have a lot to learn about these organisms. Beisner will provide some insight into their life histories and ecology and how they might be affecting food webs in lakes.

This webinar is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.
