Lake Erie Watershed Game Workshop

Lake Erie Watershed Game Workshop
10/21/23, 8:00 am - 10/21/23, 12:00 pm

This Lake Erie Watershed Game Workshop will provide participants with training on how to use Minnesota Sea Grant's new Watershed Game: Classroom Version — Coast Model.

Minnesota Sea Grant and Water Resources Center Stormwater Extension Educator Maggie Karschnia and Ohio Sea Grant Education Specialist Lyndsey Manzo will be co-hosting this workshop on October 21, 2023, in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The Watershed Game: Classroom Version — Coast Model represents a typical coastal community or estuary. The goal of the game is to reduce nonpoint source pollution (excess sediment, phosphorus or nitrogen) from various land uses to the coast while also building the community’s resilience to flooding. The game is designed for middle school students (grades 6 - 8) and high school students (grades 9 -12), but can easily be modified to use with elementary and college students.

The Watershed Game: Classroom Version emphasizes collaboration and cooperative decision-making, persuasive argumentation, teamwork, and leadership skills along with science and math. The game helps address Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. The game may also help address individual state education standards.
