July Twin Ports Climate Conversation: Raising the Giants

Twin Ports Climate Conversations invites you to an in-person presentation titled "Raising the Giants: Lake Sturgeon Comeback for Superior Waters" by Shawna Weaver of the Great Lakes Aquarium on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Duluth, Minnesota.

This presentation will discuss a new Lake Sturgeon rearing project in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Once abundant in the St. Louis River estuary, these ancient fish played a vital role in shaping healthy waters and local cultures. Although their numbers declined sharply over the past century, efforts to reintroduce them promise to boost both ecological and community resilience in a time of climate change.

This conversation offers a glimpse into how one ancient species may help nurture the balance of a river that is still healing. In reintroducing native fish like the lake sturgeon, not only is the natural balance being restored—the resilience of our local waters and the communities that depend on them are enhanced.

This event is free to attend. Advance registration is required.
