2021 Aquaculture Challenge (Grades 8 to 12)

Attention teachers and educators!

The Sea Grant program in Michigan is inviting you to participate in the 6th Annual Aquaculture Challenge. Teams of 8-12-grade students design and create an aquaponics system to grow both plants (hydroponics) and animals (aquaculture).

There are three parts to the challenge.

  1. Design and create a desktop  (200 feet squared or smaller) aquaponics system
  2. Monitor the system
  3. Complete an outreach project or a research project or a business plan

Event Details

The first 25 teams who register and attend a teacher/coach training are eligible for a $250 stipend to build and monitor their systems. 

Dates and overview.
Teams can work on the competition as part of a class or as an after-school activity. Multiple teams can register per school, and teams can also register as part of an after-school club or other academic related organization

Team rules

Registration is open until January 11, 2021 or when 25 teams are registered.
