Small Life from a Great Lake Workshop at Sugarloaf Cove

July 29, 2017
10 a.m. - Noon
Sugarloaf Interpretive Center
9096 Hwy 61
Schroeder, MN 55613

Presented by Cindy Hagley, Environmental Quality Extension Educator, Minnesota Sea Grant.

The event is free and open to the public.

Cattails and lily pads are scarce commodities on Lake Superior. What steps in to fill those important producers' shoes and support the rest of the life in the big lake? Learn about Lake Superior's green stuff — algae — their amazing ecology, diversity and beauty, and learn why they can sometimes become too much of a good thing. Scientists are seeing an increase in production in unexpected and unusual places in the Great Lakes, and a new citizen science effort is underway to help find answers to why this is happening. Come explore, wonder, and learn how to contribute.
