Aquatic Invaders Summit: An Exploration of Collaboration, Innovation, and Opportunity

January 20-21, 2015
St. Cloud Civic Center
10 4th Avenue South
St. Cloud, MN 56301

Registration fee: $165 per person for two-day Summit after January 6.

Created especially for Minnesota local units of government and their partners, this two day event will bring in national aquatic invasive species (AIS) leaders to provide on-the-ground applied science and actions that can be taken to lower the risk of spreading AIS. This program will allow all the AIS managers, counties, local governments, lake associations, angling groups and others to network. It will cover expectations, data recording, and strategies as well as provide all attendees with the latest science, research and goals in AIS prevention and control. On the second day, participants will work through a Local AIS Framework and leave with a working document on how to best apply their resources to protect their lakes from AIS.

Attendees will learn about ways to take the fight against AIS to the next level by:

  • Developing an understanding of current practices/laws; understanding what AIS are here and the impacts; and learning what's on the horizon for prevention and management.
  • Learning about new technology and innovative approaches for AIS prevention (new infestations, new aquatic invaders, and limiting the spread through AIS management) in Minnesota and successes across the country.
  • Gaining insights into successful communication and educational tools for AIS prevention.
  • Participating in a grassroots effort to develop a first-of-its-kind, coordinated AIS Prevention Framework for local collaboration and implementation.

Representatives from Minnesota Sea Grant will be hosting a HabitattitudeTM booth and would be happy to answer your questions about aquatic invasive species and preventing their spread.

This event is sponsored by the Initiative Foundation, the Minnesota Lakes and Rivers Advocates, and the Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts To register for the Summit, click here. For more information, contact Paula West by phone at 218-838-5010 or by email at westcom@brainerd.net.
