World Water Day

March 22, 2014

The theme for World Water Day 2014 is Water and Energy.

Energy production and transmission requires water; conversely, about 8% of energy is used for pumping, treating, and transporting water. Through World Water Day and other events, the United Nations is working to bring attention to "bottom billion", the approximate number of people on Earth lacking access to safe drinking water or sufficient energy services.

In the land of 10,000 lakes, Minnesotans have many ways to stay up-to-date on the latest water and energy news. One way is through the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment and Water Resource Center pages, which feature articles that explain the current struggles as well as possible solutions to these problems.
