Lake Superior Day

July 17, 2011
Lake Superior Basin

Lake Superior Day takes place annually on the third Sunday of July.

In honor of the world's largest and cleanest freshwater lake, towns and communities in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Ontario, Canada along the shores of Lake Superior are planning events in tribute to the greatest of the Great Lakes. Picnics, beach clean-ups, library displays, kite flying, concerts, hikes, an essay contest, and government proclamations are all part of the day's celebration to bring attention to this huge body of water that holds 10 percent of Earth's fresh water. On Lake Superior Day, visit Canal Park in Duluth and find information about the lake's natural history, regional culture, and invasive aquatic species.

Events will be held July 13-17th. These events are open and free to the public.
