Mills Fleet Farm Hosts Kids' Fishing Day

July 10, 2010
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Fleet Farm Retail Outlets in MN

The 9th annual Mills Fleet Farm Kid's Fishing Day is Saturday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mills Fleet Farm locations throughout Minnesota. The event promotes fishing appreciation, teaching kids basic fishing skills, casting tips, knot tying, fish identification, live bait use, and proper life vest fitting.

Minnesota Sea Grant is co-sponsoring the event featuring a Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! campaign booth to educate youth and adults about the threats posed by aquatic invasive species and how to prevent their spread.

Doug Jensen, aquatic invasive species program coordinator for the University of Minnesota Sea Grant said that children will have an opportunity to see preserved specimens of some of the invasive species they may come across in our lakes and streams. They'll learn to recognize some, and they'll receive a tattoo and a goodie bag.

The Kidís Fishing Day is free and open to all kids. Experts from Sea Grant, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Forever, lake associations, and other organizations will be available to answer questions. If you have any questions, please visit the Customer Service Desk at your nearest Mills Fleet Farm location.
