Sea Grant Staff Judge Regional Science Fair

Minnesota Sea Grant's Environmental Quality Extension Educator, Cindy Hagley, and Research Coordinator, Dr. Valerie Brady, participated as judges at the Northeast Minnesota Regional Science Fair on February 6, 2010 at UMD's Kirby Ballroom in Duluth.

The Science Fair is intended to foster students' interest and learning in science by supporting their work. It is open to students in grades 7-12 in public, private, parochial and home schools in Carlton, Cook, Lake, St. Louis, and Pine Counties. Minnesota Sea Grant supports the Science Fair with a monetary contribution each year.

Students compete at their school level and the top projects move on to the regional competition, with regional winners going on to State.

Award certificates were given to the following students and their projects:

  1. Logan P. (12th gr) Cloquet High School. The use of a rain garden to control road run-off on Scanlon Creek – part 4.
  2. Katie C. (8th gr) Woodland Middle school. The effect of winter on Miller Creek’s water quality.
  3. Rupa E. and Jannel J. (12th gr) Cloquet High School. Zebra mussel infestation of Pike Lake and the effect on zooplankton density and diversity.

Minnesota Sea Grant congratulates all the students who participated at the local and regional levels and encourage you to "keep doing science."
