Hoene Joins Sea Grant Communications Team

DULUTH—Nancy Hoene joined the University of Minnesota Sea Grant program as Communications Coordinator and Senior Editor on November 2.

Most recently, Hoene was former Director of Communications & Outreach for a statewide public policy research firm in Madison, Wisconsin, and brings 12 years of freelance journalism experience to the position.

"I am enthused to see that the University of Minnesota Sea Grant, and its parent organization, the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), do not shy away from the big issues like climate change, and all that it will mean to the communities in this Great Lakes region," she said.

Hoene looks forward to collaborating with other Sea Grant offices throughout the Great Lakes coastal areas and continuing Minnesota Sea Grant's strong position as the go-to source for research-based aquatic science information.

Prior to joining Minnesota Sea Grant, she had numerous articles published in magazines, newspapers, and online webzines, and she has scripted video lessons for websites and authored three books.

Previously, Hoene worked as education and outreach director for WDSE-TV public television, and taught English in Duluth Public Schools. She holds a B.S. degree in English-Language Arts from UMD, and an M.S. in Media Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
