Mysteries of the Great Lakes Screening

October 16, 2009
Duluth's Omnimax Theatre
Duluth, Minnesota

  • Tickets on sale for $5

A special screening of the IMAX movie Mysteries of the Great Lakes will start at 5 PM at the Omnimax Theatre in Duluth.

At the Mysteries of the Great Lakes screening, Dave Anderson, TV meteorologist and auxiliary coast guard volunteer, will give a brief presentation and host a question-and-answer session. Local sponsors of the Twin Port's World Maritime Day celebration will offer information and door prizes, such as life vests, posters, books, and tickets to the haunted ship.

"World Maritime Day is a perfect moment to reflect on the role of shipping in our lives and to consider the importance of maritime transportation in our future," said Adolph Ojard, executive director of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority. "As the United States works to reduce its carbon footprint, it seems logical, if not essential to revisit options to use waterborne transportation to move our commodities and materials. Per ton of cargo, ships are much more fuel efficient, far less polluting, and safer than either trucks or trains."

The University of Minnesota Sea Grant Program, the Great Lakes Maritime Research Institute, the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Duluth's Omnimax Theatre invite the public to celebrate World Maritime Day with them on October 16.
